What are monitrice services?
"Monitrice" is a French word meaning "guide" or "assistant."Â
Monitrice services are offered by trained birth professionals in order to provide support and assistance to birthing women and couples throughout pregnancy and postpartum. Monitrice services bridge the gap between doula support and midwifery care. These services encompass clinical assessments, labor support, emotional support, and information, while also respecting the birthing person's preferences and choices.
Key Aspects of Monitrice Services
"Bridging the Gap"
A monitrice offers a more comprehensive approach than doulas, incorporating clinical skills and assessments, while still providing emotional and informational support similar to a midwife.
Informed Decision-Making
A monitrice will provide information and guidance to helping the birthing woman or couple make informed decisions about their care.
Clinical Assessments
A monitrice may assess vital signs, fetal heart tones, cervical dilation, and labor progress.
Labor Support
A monitrice provides continuous support during labor, including emotional comfort, physical support, and helping the birthing woman navigate the labor process.
Postpartum Support
A monitrice offers postpartum care, which may include newborn assessments, postpartum depression monitoring, and breastfeeding support.
Flexibility and Customization
Monitrice services are tailored to meet individual needs and preferences, whether it's for a planned home birth, a planned hospital birth, or a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).
Fees for Monitrice Services
Monitrice services are customized to meet individual needs and preferences. As such, fees will be discussed during your initial consultation. However, fees will range from $1,000 to $3,500 based on the needs and level of support requested.
Insurance
Monitrice services are not covered by insurance.
Payment Plans
The relationship between you and your monitrice is a special one and functions best without the burden of worrying over finances. Payment plans are available, but all plans require payment in full by 36-weeks gestation.
